Chevening and Marshall Scholars

Chevening and Marshall Scholars are warmly invited to participate in the HOST programme.

The British Foreign Office encourages all Scholars to have at least one HOST visit during their stay in the UK. This will add a different dimension to your experience of life in Britain.

A HOST visit means that you will spend a couple of days in a private home, as a guest of the residents of this country. They will introduce you to their home and community life, the attractions of their area, their customs and attitudes. They will be interested in you and your culture.

A HOST visit is a relaxing break in another part of Britain, and an easy way to learn more about life here and to be an ambassador for your own country.

HOST visits are free!!

The hosts are volunteers who welcome you to their homes because they like to offer hospitality. You will only have to pay for the cost of travel to your host's nearest town (and you can tell HOST how much you are prepared to spend on that, so that you remain in control of your budget.)

What's more, the FCO will pay the administration fee to HOST for your FIRST application for a visit, so if your university asks for a contribution to that fee, you will NOT have to pay it.

To read more about HOST and to register and apply for your first visit, please follow this link to the student pages of our website now.

This really is an opportunity not to be missed – the vast majority of scholars who have had a HOST visit go straight back to their university to recommend it to all their colleagues!

This is available only to the first 330 scholars who apply every year from now to 2011.
