The Team

The HOST Team have just returned from their annual conference: all the Staff and Trustees were there, and a good number of the Voluntary Regional Organisers.

The keynote speaker, Julie Zhu, from the staff of Leicester University, gave a fascinating insight into the life of an international student in the UK today - from application to a university, through the immigration process to arrival in a strange - and cold - new environment. The many adjustments students from overseas have to make - to their way of life, study methods, and above all to their expectations - made us realise how helpful and significant a visit to a friendly and caring host can be.

Workshops looked afresh at the crucial role of the Regional Organisers, and a presentation on various aspects of the work done in the HOST office brought everyone up to date.

Fun and laughter were not omitted from this get-together. Delegates enjoyed a good dinner, and a barn dance, to ensure a refreshing night's sleep in the comfortable rooms of College Court, Leicester. Everyone left re-invigorated and determined to make HOST the best it can be for both students and hosts in the year ahead.

Board of Trustees

HOST’s Board of Trustees is responsible for making sure that HOST is working as it should, and that it will be able to continue to do so. Every Trustee is a volunteer, giving his or her time freely to help HOST in many different ways.

Mark Pellew CVO - Chair of the Board
Mark is a retired diplomat. He and his wife are hosts in Oxfordshire.

Margaret Hancox - Deputy Chair
Before retirement, Margaret’s career was divided between international sales & marketing and university administration. Margaret & her husband have been hosts in Oxfordshire for 24 years.

Sue Millington-Hore - Treasurer
Sue is a qualified accountant who runs a practice with her husband Kit. She is an enthusiastic golfer. Sue and Kit are hosts in Hertfordshire.

Trina Golland
Trina has had a very varied career, including interior design and running a B&B. Now she enjoys her grandchildren, her garden, and her canal boat ‘Albert Henry’. Trina and her husband are hosts in Hertfordshire.

The Regional Organisers

HOST is very grateful to have a team of volunteer Regional Organisers (ROs) who link international students with the hosts in their regions. They give a lot of their free time to do this, and many of them are hosts as well.
